Independent Expert on Human Rights in Sudan Aristide Nononsi arrives in the country today (Sunday) on a 10-day visit in the context of his mandate from the Human Rights Council under the agenda item 10, of technical assistance and capacity building. The Rapporteur of the Advisory Council on Human Rights, Dr. Tariq Mubarak Magzoub, said in a press statement that the aim of the visit of the independent expert is to follow up his previous recommendations made in the report he had presented before the Human Rights Council in its 36th Session in Geneva. Magzoub said Sudan has fulfilled all its commitments, reaffirming commitment of the government to full cooperation with the mechanisms of the United Nations and the International community for promoting and improving the situation of human rights. The visit of the independent expert comprises meetings with the Minister of Justice, the Advisory Council on Human Rights, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, civil society organizations, the Secretary General of National Council for Child Welfare, the Minister of Social Security and Development, National Human Rights Commission, Unit for Combating Violence against Women and the Sudanese Bar Association. He is also to visit Shala federal prison and concludes the visit by holding a press conference at the UN premises. The independent expert is due to present outcome of the visit and his recommendations to the Human Rights Council in next Septem.
