Acting Charge d'Affaires at Sudan Mission to UN Affirms Sudan Commitment to Cooperate with UNISFA

Abyei

The acting Charge d'Affaires at Sudan mission to the United Nations, Ambassador Magdi Ahmed Mufadal, gave Sudan statement before the Security Council's sitting on May 15, which was assigned for approving the council's resolution 2352 to extend the mandate of the UN Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) for more six months.
The acting Charge d'Affaires has affirmed Sudan commitment to implementation of the Security Council's resolution 2352 and to cooperate with UNISFA for completing its mandate, referring to the remarkable progress in the peaceful co-existence between Messairiya and Dinka Ngok communities at Abyei area.
He said that Sudan has never been in any day a cause in hampering work of the Joint Mechanism for Verification and Border Monitoring.
He called for boosting the dialogue with South Sudan government and putting pressure on its to fulfill its commitments with regard to establishment of the demilitarized buffer zone and easing work of the Joint Mechanism for Verification and Border Monitoring.
Ambassador Magdi hoped that outcome of the meeting will be the outset for a new era in normalizing the relations between the two countries and solving the problems, especially the security obstacles.
He reiterated Sudan government commitment to implementation of the decisions of the joint political and security mechanism was held in Addis Ababa on 14 and May 15 and the successive meetings.
He also affirmed the commitment of Sudan government to all the agreements which it has signed with South Sudan government and called on South Sudan government to engage seriously with the government of South Sudan and the African Union in establishment of institutions in Abyei in accordance with the agreement on the final status of Abyei which was signed in June 2011.
