Hamdouk commends efforts of AU UN for supporting peace

Khartoum, Oct. 25 (SUNA) - Prime Minister Dr. Abdallah Hamdouk has commended the efforts of the African Union and the United Nations in supporting the peace process in Sudan as well as their clear backing for removing the name of the country from the terrorism list. This came when the Prime Minister received at his office here today African Union Commissioner for Peace and Security Smail Chergui and United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, in the presence of Cabinet Affairs Minister Ambassador Omer Manis, acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Omer Gamar-Eddin and chairman of the national committee for coordination with UNITAMS mission Ambassador Omer Al-Shiekh. Dr. Hamdouk affirmed readiness of the government of the Sudan to extend full support to UNITAMS mission besides facilitating the process of exit of UNAMID. The Prime Minister received congratulations form the UN and AU officials on the signing of the Sudanese peace agreement in Juba besides removing the name of Sudan from the list of states sponsoring terrorism. The UN and AU officials expressed their satisfaction over the outcome of consultations made with the Sudanese side in the high-level tripartite mechanism concerning UNAMID, indicating that the three parties agreed fully on exit of UNAMID according to dates fixed by the Security Council. They also commended the efforts of the government for implementation of the national plan for protection of civilians, affirming commitment of UN and AU to continue support to the transitional government of Sudan to achieve its goals.
