Australia Renews Support for Sudan's Stability, Unity, and Territorial Integrity, Rejects Any Move to Form a Parallel Government
Canberra, The Chargé d'Affaires of the Sudanese Embassy in Australia, Ahmed Salah Bayoumi, met on Wednesday with the Acting Assistant Under-Secretary of State for African Affairs, Lara Naso, at the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, at her office at the Ministry's headquarters. Baoumi briefed the Australian official on the developments in the political and field situation in Sudan and the steps taken by the Sudanese government to create a democratic, civil political climate for the formation of a transitional government of national competencies. He also informed her of the hostile move taken by the Kenyan government to host a meeting of the rebel militia and some of its supporters to announce a parallel government, and its intention to host a second meeting for the same purpose. This constitutes blatant interference in Sudan's internal affairs and contravenes international law and the UN Charter. For her part, the Acting Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs affirmed the Australian government's support for Sudan's stability, unity, and territorial integrity, and its rejection of any move toward forming a parallel government. She reiterated Australia's call for a cessation of hostilities, facilitating unhindered humanitarian access, and finding a political solution to the crisis. The Australian official emphasized the Australian government's rejection of all forms of violations against civilians.
She noted that the Australian government is in a transitional period due to the elections scheduled for next month. She noted that Australia's Non-Resident Ambassador to Sudan, Dr. Aksbel Wappenhorst, tweeted yesterday, Tuesday, on social media expressing Australia's condemnation of any attacks against civilians, including children and humanitarian workers in Sudan.
