Western Countries Condemn RSF Atrocities in Al-Fashir

Foreign ministers from more than 20 countries issued a statement condemning the grave violations in Al-Fashir, the capital of North Darfur, including killings, mass executions, abductions, and sexual violence. Signatories include the UK, Germany, Norway, the Netherlands, Ireland, Iceland, Spain, Denmark, and Canada.
According to Al-Zawiya Net, the statement expressed deep concern over RSF atrocities against civilians, particularly after the group seized Al-Fashir and violence escalated in Darfur and Kordofan. Documented abuses include ethnically motivated mass killings, conflict-related sexual violence, starvation as a weapon of war, and obstruction of humanitarian aid.
The statement called for accountability and an end to impunity, emphasizing that protecting the Sudanese people and achieving justice is both a legal and moral obligation. It also demanded that humanitarian agencies, including the World Food Programme and UNICEF, have safe, unrestricted access to civilians.
The signatories urged all parties to adhere to international humanitarian law, ensure the safe delivery of food and medical supplies, and provide safe corridors in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2736. They also called for an immediate ceasefire and a three-month humanitarian truce per the Quartet initiative, and stressed the need to prevent any attempts to divide Sudan.
