President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, met on Wednesday with the Personal Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General to Sudan, Mr. Pekka Haavisto, in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Mohi-Eddin Salim.
The meeting reviewed the overall situation in the country and ongoing efforts to bolster security and stability and advance comprehensive peace. For his part, the UN envoy expressed his pleasure at meeting the TSC President, reiterating his commitment to supporting efforts to secure a ceasefire and reach a peaceful, lasting, and sustainable resolution to the ongoing conflict in Sudan. He stressed the critical importance of adopting dialogue and de-escalation as essential steps toward a comprehensive cessation of hostilities, and underscored the need to sustain engagement in tracks that prioritize the protection of civilians while advancing confidence-building measures to create conditions conducive to tangible progress. Haavisto said the United Nations remains fully engaged with all stakeholders to advance peace and stability and deliver humanitarian assistance across the country, noting that his current visit provides an important opportunity to hear directly from key political and civilian actors. He further reaffirmed the commitment of the United Nations Security Council and the UN Secretary-General to Sudan’s unity and territorial integrity as a fundamental principle, adding that the United Nations stands firmly with the Sudanese people and remains committed to working alongside its international partners to support credible steps to end the fighting and chart a path toward durable peace through inclusive and genuine dialogue.
