Cabinet Condemns Ethiopia-UAE “Aggression,” Reviews Key Issues
The Council of ministers held an emergency session Tuesday chaired by Prime Minister Kamil Idris, condemning the “failed aggression” by Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Minister of Culture and Information Khalid Al-Eisir said the session focused on key security, economic and legislative issues. He said the Cabinet denounced the attack and praised the vigilance of security and military forces for thwarting an operation targeting Khartoum Airport. Al-Eisir also commended the Foreign Ministry’s diplomatic efforts and regional and international support for Sudan, describing it as backing the Sudanese people in the “Battle of Dignity.” He added that Cabinet expressed appreciation for public support behind the government in confronting the campaigns targeting the Sudanese state.
The session also discussed land reform legislation and urban planning in light of a report presented by the Justice Minister on unifying land laws. The Cabinet stressed the need to address land encroachments.
The Information Minister stated that the ministers reviewed a report on the gold sector presented by the Director of the Economic Security Authority, outlining challenges and proposals to increase export revenues.
The Central Bank Governor, he said, presented a vision for updating export policies. The Cabinet recommended forming a committee to refine those policies and tighten penalties on gold smuggling, describing it as a critical national resource. Al-Eisir pointed out that the Cabinet also reviewed a proposal for a one million housing units project aimed at supporting youth and vulnerable groups, in line with the government’s housing strategy. On drug control, Interior Ministry officials briefed the Cabinet on anti-narcotics efforts. The prime minister directed increased support for enforcement and intensified public awareness campaigns, particularly targeting youth. Following the session, Idris toured an exhibition organized by the Interior Ministry’s anti-narcotics directorate displaying various types of drugs, stressing the need for coordinated official and public efforts to combat the issue.
