Drafting Committee of Joint political Mechanism holds first meeting

Drafting Committee of Joint political Mechanism holds first meeting

The Drafting Committee of the Joint Political Mechanism to reach the final political agreement held its first meeting yesterday in the presence of the trilteral mechanism at the Republican Palace. The committee consists of thirteen members and includes representatives of the various civil forces that signed the framework agreement, the Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces.

The official spokesman for the political process, Khaled Omer Youssef, said in a press statement that the joint committee has been working on developing a methodology on how to formulate the final political agreement. He noted: "The previous references were confirmed, which are the political framework agreement, the political declaration, the draft transitional constitution, and the recommendations of the four workshops and conferences held within the political process so far." Khaled indicated that the committee developed a methodology and decided that the final political agreement and five protocols attached to the final political agreement should be an integral part of it, and each of them deals with the five issues specified in the framework political agreement. He added that it was agreed to adopt the recommendations received from workshops and conferences and adopt them as a basis for drafting the five protocols on issues that will be completed by holding a security and military reform workshop in the coming days. He pointed out that two of the five issues had been completed, and it was decided that the committee would remain in permanent session, as a session will be held this evening to continue completing the remaining two issues and then return to the text of the final political agreement to finish drafting the initial draft within days and complete discussions about it to sign the final agreement according to the agreed times between the parties signatory of the framework agreement.
