Press release

Upon the Government of Sudan’s request, the UN Security Council has adopted on Friday 1st December 2033 a draft resolution to terminate the mandate of the United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNTAMS), effective 3rd December 2023.
H. E. Ambassador Dafallah Al-Haj Ali, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who leads a high-level delegation currently in New York for discussions with members of the Security Council and senior United Nations officials on the issue, addressed the meeting of the Security Council, expressing thanks to the members for their consent to the demand of Sudan to terminate the mandate of the UNITAMS. H.E. the Undersecretary expressed the determination of the leadership of Sudan to put an end to the war, and to tackle its consequences, while ensuring a peaceful and democratic transition period by launching an expanded political process derived by national will that would lead to free and transparent elections. He further reiterated the commitment of Sudan to continue its constructive engagement with the United Nations, especially by supporting the role of the country team and cooperating with the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General, Mr. Ramtane Lamamra.
H. E. the Undersecretary explained that Sudan is fighting a just defensive war against an aggressor militia that is targeting the Sudanese people and their well being, calling on the external backers and supporters of this militia to stop interfering in Sudan internal affairs. It is worth mentioning that the end of the UNITAMS was the result of coordinated efforts in which Presidential diplomacy, the High National Committee for Dealing with the United Nations, and the Permanent Mission of Sudan in New York took part. These efforts have been culminated in the mission of the high-level delegation led by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who engaged in contacts and meetings with all members of the Security Council and senior officials at the UN.
