Foreign Minister Receives UN Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ambassador Mohi-Eddin Salim received the UN Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, Kuang Cong, at his residence in the Presidential Palace in Addis Ababa on Wednesday.
The two sides reviewed developments in Sudan and their impact on the wider Horn of Africa. They agreed on the need to address the root causes of regional crises, reject violence, uphold state sovereignty in line with international norms and conventions, and denounce external interference in domestic and regional affairs that undermines the interests of countries and their peoples.
The UN Special Envoy expressed concern over repeated attacks by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia on humanitarian convoys, citing the latest assault on a World Food Programme (WFP) convoy.
For his part, Minister Mohi-Eddin Salim expressed regret over the incident and affirmed that field developments are moving toward restoring the Sudanese Armed Forces’ control over the entire national territory. He called on the United Nations to press the militia’s financiers and supporters to halt fuelling the war imposed on Sudan and its people, who are fighting for survival. He also urged the UN envoy to clearly identify the perpetrators and confront militia backers with the crimes documented by the United Nations.
