Sudan-India Political Consultations Conclude in Port Sudan

The ninth round of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Sudan and the Republic of India was held on Monday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Port Sudan, where both sides conducted a comprehensive review of bilateral relations and explored ways to develop and strengthen them across various fields.
The consultations also included an exchange of views on regional and international issues of mutual concern, with both parties emphasizing the importance of joint coordination and mutual support within international organizations.
The Sudanese side was headed by Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Muawiya Othman Khalid, while the Indian side was led by Ambassador Dr. Suresh Kumar, Director General of the West Asia and North Africa Division at India’s Ministry of External Affairs. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to revitalizing relations and advancing bilateral cooperation to broader horizons.
The Sudanese delegation expressed appreciation for India’s supportive positions toward Sudan in recent periods, as well as its generous humanitarian assistance to the Sudanese people.
The two sides agreed on the importance of advancing economic and trade cooperation, particularly in agriculture, energy, pharmaceuticals, mining, and digital transformation, with a focus on strengthening private sector partnerships in both countries. They also discussed facilitating trade exchange, including exploring mechanisms to ease financial transfers to support commercial flows, as well as improving mobility by working toward the establishment of direct flights between Sudan and India. In the field of capacity building, Sudan praised India’s training and scholarship programs, particularly the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme, expressing interest in expanding such initiatives in line with Sudan’s priorities, especially during the post-conflict reconstruction phase.
The consultations also addressed prospects for enhanced cooperation in the health sector, including support for rehabilitating healthcare institutions, expanding pharmaceutical and prosthetics industries, and advancing telemedicine applications.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in counterterrorism and addressing shared security challenges, while condemning all forms of terrorism. At the conclusion of the consultations, the two sides agreed to continue coordination and dialogue, and to work toward implementing the agreed outcomes in a manner that reflects the depth of bilateral relations and serves the interests of both peoples.
