Hamdouk Affirms Government Commitment to Review Illegal Financial Flows

Hamdouk

Khartoum, July 7 (SUNA) –The Prime Minister, Dr. Abdalla Hamdouk, has affirmed the government commitment to follow up and review financial flows, return all looted and smuggled funds from abroad and direct them to the development and stability of the country. He made the affirmation in his address Wednesday at the Friendship Hall to a meeting of the Workshop of the High-level Mechanism for Combat Illicit Financial Flows, in the presence of and participation of a number of Ministers, undersecretaries of ministries and representatives of concerned government institutions, in addition to ambassadors of a number of friendly and brotherly countries, the African Union Commission, the European Union, UNITAMS, the UN Development Program, the World Bank a number of international development agencies and international organizations. Dr. Hamdouk stressed the importance of united internal and external efforts, working in integrated coordination, creating a healthy investment climate and a national mechanism, and integrating them with civil society organizations and working with high transparency for success of the great project. He affirmed that the establishment of such a mechanism would not have happened without advent of the glorious December revolution and the sacrifices of its youths. Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the national mechanism, Omer Al-Omerabi, said that the illicit financial flows cost Africa 88.6 billion dollars annually, and that a high-level team from the African Union concerned with illicit financial flows in Africa is leading the fight against these flows. He pointed out that the gap in Sudan's global trade transactions during the years 2012 - 2018 amounted to $30.9 billion dollars, representing 50% of Sudan's total trade during this period. He stressed the importance of addressing this problem and adopting laws and systems to control these flows, provided that supervision is to be at the level of the Prime Minister, affirming the importance of tight coordination between all the concerned state agencies and tax control through electronic collection and the single gate.
