Sudan, UNIDO Sign Joint Declaration to Advance Industrial Recovery Program
Sudan and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) have signed a joint declaration supporting Sudan’s Industrial Recovery Program. The agreement was signed by Minister of Industry and Trade Mahasin Ali Yagoub and UNIDO Director-General Gerd Müller on the sidelines of the 21st UNIDO General Conference in Riyadh.
The declaration aims to bolster Sudan’s industrial rebuilding efforts by increasing the added value of agricultural products, attracting investments to agro-industrial hubs, reducing post-harvest losses, and promoting water-related, pharmaceutical, and green industries. It also focuses on industrial policy guidance and national capacity-building.
Addressing the conference, the Minister urged UNIDO member states, international financing institutions, the private sector, and research centres to support the implementation of the Industrial Recovery Program, reaffirming the government’s commitment to achieving inclusive, sustainable economic development and strengthening peace and stability.
She also highlighted the long-standing cooperation between Sudan and UNIDO and commended the organization’s continued engagement in Sudan since the outbreak of the rebellion, expressing hope for expanded collaboration in the period ahead.
