Foreign Minister Participates in Annual Ministerial Meeting of the G-77 and China

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Mohy-Eddin Salem, participated on Wednesday evening in the annual ministerial meeting of the Group of 77 and China, held on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The meeting brought together foreign ministers of member states, including Pakistan, Algeria, Angola, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Brazil, Djibouti, Cuba, Eritrea, Egypt, Gambia, Guatemala, Indonesia, Guinea, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Nigeria, Oman, the Philippines, Senegal, South Africa, Syria, Uganda, and Yemen and Palestine participated as an observer through its Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
This year’s meeting was held under the theme: “Strengthening Multilateralism for Sustainable Development: Advancing the Priorities of the Global South.”
The Foreign Minister delivered Sudan’s statement, highlighting national and regional challenges, emphasizing the importance of multilateralism as a key pathway to achieving development and peace.
The Minister noted that the meeting’s theme carries a particular significance for Sudan, stressing that true multilateralism means a country facing aggression and terrorism should not stand alone but receive solidarity and support from the international community, especially from partners in the Global South. He added that sustainable development for Sudan is no longer a distant goal but an urgent necessity to rebuild what war has vandalized, achieve economic recovery, and restore the path of peace and stability.
Ambassador Salim also stressed that advancing the priorities of the Global South requires comprehensive reform of the international financial system to ensure fair representation, equitable access to resources, and the sweeping of impediments facing developing countries in mobilizing funding and investment in critical areas such as food security, reconstruction, climate adaptation, and national capacity building.
He asserted the importance of enhancing cooperation among Global South countries and exchanging expertise as a strategic approach to addressing common challenges.
The Minister reaffirmed Sudan commitment to working jointly with the Group to strengthen international solidarity and advance sustainable, inclusive development for the peoples of the Global South.
