Justice Minister Receives National Initiative Document on Good Governance and Rule of Law
Minister of Justice, Dr. Abdallah Dirif, received on Sunday at his office the National Initiative Document on Good Governance and the Rule of Law, prepared by retired advisors of the Ministry of Justice, in the presence of the Ministry’s Undersecretary, Howaida Ali Awad Al-Karim.
The Minister praised the initiative and the efforts exerted in formulating a vision to strengthen the rule of law, stressing the importance of such initiatives in light of the current challenges facing the country, which require solidarity and collective cooperation. He pointed out that a specialized committee has already been formed to review urgent legal amendments, in addition to a higher committee tasked with reviewing all federal and state legislations to ensure their alignment with constitutional principles and the international agreements ratified by Sudan.
For his part, the Head of the Retirees’ Group, former Attorney General Salah Abdallah, expressed his gratitude to the Minister for the opportunity, noting that the group had deliberated and reached a unified vision on the initiative.
The document underscores the importance of good governance in ensuring the sound use of state resources for the benefit of the people through the application of transparency, equality, efficiency, and the rule of law. It further highlights the need for effective management of state institutions, the private sector, and civil society, stressing that adherence to the principles of good governance and the rule of law will enhance institutional performance and strengthen governance, particularly in the post-war context.
The document also called for the establishment of independent commissions for anti-corruption, legal reform, civil service reform, and transitional justice.
