Government Condemns Terrorist Attack on Heglig Oil Fields
The Government of Sudan strongly condemns in the strongest terms the heinous terrorist attack carried out by Al-Dagalo militia at dawn on Saturday, 30 August 2025, targeting the Heglig oil fields, which resulted in the killing and injury of a number of civilian workers in the area.
In a press statement issued on Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation denounced this cowardly assault, affirming that the terrorist militia has continued its barbaric practices since the outbreak of the rebellion in April 2023 by targeting infrastructure and vital facilities that provide essential services to the Sudanese people. The statement added that these attacks have now gone beyond harming Sudan’s national interests to targeting the interests of the Republic of South Sudan and other foreign companies that rely on the Heglig area for the export of South Sudan’s oil.
The statement further noted that the Government of Sudan has consistently documented the violations of Al-Dagalo militia against the Sudanese people without any tangible response from the international community, a matter that has emboldened the militia to escalate its crimes and extend its threat beyond Sudan to neighboring countries, thereby posing a serious security jeopardy to the entire region. For security reasons, the statement indicated, the Government of Sudan may be compelled to take the necessary measures to suspend operations at the oil field and evacuate the workers from the area to preserve their lives.
