AU Commission Chairperson Expresses Solidarity with Victims of Landslides in Jebel Marra
Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has expressed deep sympathy with the victims and families affected by the tragic landslide disaster in Jebel Marra, Darfur.
According to a statement issued today, the Chairperson learned with profound sorrow of the tragic landslide that occurred on 31 August in Tirsin village, North Darfur State, claiming the lives of more than 1,000 people.
In the statement, the Chairperson extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and expressed deep solidarity with the people of Sudan affected by this tragedy. He also conveyed his warmest sympathies to the sole survivor, whose resilience serves as a beacon of hope.
The Chairperson reaffirmed, in these painful circumstances, the African Union’s steadfast solidarity with the affected population, urging all Sudanese stakeholders to silence the guns and unite in order to facilitate the rapid and effective delivery of emergency humanitarian assistance to those in need.
